My birth name is Vincenzo Caruana Jones, and I also go by Bear. I was born and raised in the unceded territories of my Southern Pomo and Coast Miwok relatives. My Mother is from Macon, Georgia, which are my African and Native Muscogee roots, and my Father is from Malta (a small island off the coast of Sicily).
Just as love’s true power lies in its ability to transform us, in the same way, art embodies that transformational force. My work comes from seeing all things with love and hope. My art is not limited to one medium, style or idea, hence Bear Moon Collection is my newest art expression mainly working with abalone, beads, and metal wire. This is also the first time I am selling my art because I’ve always gifted it to my loved ones. Now I’m moving in the direction of financial freedom and self-determination for myself and my family.
My creativity also includes my martial art practice that taught me to constantly refine myself. This type of foundation is what landed me on a design team as a sculpturist for action figures that sold globally, and last year earned me the award of “Black Artist Rising.”
My art also tells the stories of those I love: humans that have known the cruelty of being othered and seen as nothing. As a descendant of: enslaved African peoples, Native Muscogee peoples made foreign on their own lands, and Maltese peoples who were refugees fleeing nazi invasion; people who made due with what little they had and put back together our families and culture, my art motto from nothing to something (@nothingtosomethingvincenzo) honors my Ancestors. It’s this Ancestral metamorphic energy that will galvanize us towards a world that cherishes and respects all life.

Mi nombre de nacimiento es Vincenzo Caruana Jones y también me dicen Osito. Nací y crecí en los territorios ancestrales de mis parientes Pomo del sur y Coast Miwok. Mi madre es de Macon, Georgia, que son mis raíces Africanas y Indígenas Muscogee, y mi padre es de Malta (una pequeña isla frente a la costa de Sicilia).
Así como el verdadero poder del amor se encuentra en su capacidad para transformarnos, de la misma manera, el arte encarna esa fuerza transformadora. Mi trabajo surge de ver todas las cosas con amor y esperanza. Mi arte no se limita a un medio, estilo o idea, por lo tanto, Bear Moon Collection es mi expresión artística más reciente que trabaja principalmente con concha del mar, cuentas y alambre de metal. Esta es también la primera vez que vendo mi arte porque siempre se lo he regalado a mis seres queridos. Mi creatividad también incluye mi práctica de artes marciales que me enseñó a refinarme constantemente. Mi arte también cuenta las historias de mis seres queridos: seres humanos que han conocido la crueldad de ser hechos “los otros” y ser vistos como nada. Como descendiente de: pueblos Africanos esclavizados, pueblos Indígenas Muscogee hechos extranjeros en sus propias tierras ancestrales, y pueblos Malteses que eran refugiados que huían de la invasión nazi; personas que hicieron lo necesario con lo poco que tenían y volvieron a unir nuestras familias y cultura, mi lema artístico de nada a algo (@nothingtosomethingvincenzo) honra a mis antepasados. Es esta energía metamórfica ancestral la que nos impulsará hacia un mundo que aprecia y respeta toda vida.

My loving parents Andres Hernandez Navarro and Lorena Ramirez Garcia gave me the beautiful name of Erika, and I’m also known as Luna.. My father’s Ancestral Land is in Manuel Doblado, Guanajuato, Mexico with Ancestors in Jalisco, Mexico as well. My mother’s Ancestral lineage is from Hidalgo and Toluca, Mexico and she was born & raised in Mexico City. We are descendants of Ancestors that cared for the Land and lived off the Land. My Abuelitos that I know by name include my Abuelitas Maria Garcia Sanchez and Amanda Navarro Villanueva & Felix Hernandez Gonzalez, my Great-Grandparents Victor Garcia Sanabria & Isuara Sanchez Sanchez, Jose Navarro Urbieta & Maria De Jesus Villanueva Vasquez, Andres Hernandez Angiano & Maria Concepcion Gonzalez and my Great-Great-Grandmother Rosita.
I was born and raised in the unceded territories of my Southern Pomo and Coast Miwok relatives. My Maternal Grandmother and both my parents at a young age, were forced to migrate to what is, for now, known as the United States, fleeing violence and poverty that were both established through the ongoing colonial and capitalist practices that continue to disrupt our Ancestral practices and relationships.
With a caring heart, powerful seeking spirit, and natural leadership, I hope to sow, cultivate and harvest seeds of transformation, love and liberation. Guided by Ancestral practices of Land, food, and kinship; and rooted in the well-being of the widest conceivable interconnectedness of “All My Relations,” I work to advance social transformation by collaborating with Land and humans that are nurturing a better world for our future seven generations.

El linaje ancestral de mi madre es de Hidalgo y Toluca, México, y mi madre nació y creció en la Ciudad de México. Somos descendientes de Ancestros campesinos que cuidaban la Tierra y vivieron de la Tierra. Mi abuela materna y mis dos padres a una edad temprana, se vieron obligados a migrar a lo que, por ahora, se conoce como los Estados Unidos, huyendo de la violencia y la pobreza que se establecieron a través de las prácticas coloniales y capitalistas en curso que continúan perturbando nuestras prácticas y relaciones.
